Medical Tourism Insurance Coverage

Patient coordinator Karen Peon explains the details of medical tourism insurance coverage. It is important that patients understand what the insurance does and does not cover, age limits, the time frame of coverage, and other details. The specifics depend on the type of surgery the patient is receiving, and will be discussed in great detail between the patient, coordinator, and doctor to ensure that everyone understands the scope of coverage.

What You Need to Travel to Tijuana

Passport or Passport Card

Because you will be commuting to and from Tijuana, Mexico, you will need to be a passport holder. In order to use the medical pass line and ensure an expeditious journey across the border, you will need your passport or passport card. Drivers' licenses and birth certificates will not grant you access to the medical pass line and can increase your wait time at the border.

Comfortable Clothes & Shoes

Walking is a large part of the recovery process, so you will need comfortable clothes and shoes. Bring plenty of loose clothing such as sweatpants and shoes that are easy to slip right on.

Light Luggage

If you are traveling alone, we recommend packing light. During your recovery, you should not be lifting heavy items. A large suitcase can be burdensome and may require heavy lifting, so we do not recommend that you bring one.

In addition to valid identification, you will need a signed consent form and clearance from your licensed doctor if it is determined by your surgeon that you have a medical condition that would increase your risk during surgery.
