While many patients are interested in bariatric surgery, the fear of undergoing an invasive procedure may stop you from experiencing the incredible treatment benefits.
The Single Incision Laparoscopic Sleeve (SILS) uses just one small incision, reducing recovery time, discomfort, and visible scarring.*
Excited to learn more about this advanced treatment in Monterrey and Tijuana, Mexico?
Single-incision laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, or SILS for short, offers several advantages over traditional sleeve gastrectomy, including:
What Is SILS?
Because of its many benefits, SILS is rapidly becoming a popular laparoscopic weight loss surgery in both the U.S. and Mexico.
While a traditional gastric sleeve requires four to six small incisions, the single-incision sleeve gastrectomy is performed with only a single incision through the belly button. The surgeon then uses laparoscopic tools to access the treatment area through a specialized SILS™ Port placed over the incision.
For the patient, this technique means little to virtually no scarring, reduced post-operative pain, and a quicker recovery. Because SILS is less invasive than the traditional gastric sleeve and simpler than gastric bypass surgery (Roux-en-Y), it also has lower complication rates.
This method of weight loss is a good option for patients with:
Choose a Qualified Surgeon
There are not a lot of doctors that can perform this laparoscopic procedure, which is why Tijuana Bariatrics is pleased to announce that Dr. Fernando Garcia is one of the few qualified surgeons to perform this procedure! He has taken his skill to a new level and took his time to meticulously learn and master this new and popular weight loss surgery!
The biggest difference between the two is SILS has the added benefits of little to no scars as well as reduced postoperative pain, which allows for a quicker recovery.
What to Expect During Your Procedure
Tijuana Bariatrics’ outstanding and skillful doctor, Dr. Fernando Garcia, performs the Single Incision Sleeve (SILS) by entering the abdomen and gaining access to the stomach through the belly button. Once the stomach is reached, Dr. Garcia gently cuts and reduces about 80% of the stomach. Since only the stomach is removed, the chances of vitamin deficiencies and "dumping” syndrome are highly unlikely as with the gastric bypass (RNY).
Sometimes, there is a small possibility you could need a second, very small incision for a drain to be put in. If it is needed, the scar in most cases is not even noticeable and often resembles a "scratch" as some patients describe it.
How Much Does Treatment Cost?
The cost of single incision laparoscopic surgery through Tijuana Bariatrics starts at $5,620. While pricing varies from state to state, many patients spend more than double for the same procedure in the U.S. Deciding to undergo treatment in Tijuana can allow you to save money while still receiving safe, high-quality care.

Treatment Aspects That Can Affect Your Expenses
- Specialized Technique
- This less-invasive technique requires an advanced skill level. Dr. Garcia is one of the few surgeons in the region who can perform the procedure. The reduced risk of scarring and complications also provides added value to patients.
- Revision Surgery
- If this is a revision procedure, it will cost more than a primary bariatric surgery. Your total cost can vary greatly depending on the particular initial treatment received.
What if SILS is a bit out of my price range?
We also offer up to $5,000 in medical tourism insurance. This will cover certain costs associated with medical complications in the rare event that they do occur.
“Dr. Garcia is awesome. I chose bariatrics vertical sleeve surgery. I've lost 85 lbs. since January 2017. No complications... I regret not doing this years ago.” Debbie M.
