The gastric bypass is one of the most common and successful surgeries for the treatment of obesity. The gastric bypass has two steps. The first one is to divide the stomach in two parts. The top of the stomach is going to be the pouch to receive the meals or the food for the patient. The second step is to divide the bowel and move and join it to the upper part of the stomach. This surgery is a restrictive procedure because the patient is going to eat less than previously. And it's a malabsorptive procedure because the patient is not going to absorb the calories that he usually eats. For me, it's an excellent surgery for treatment of the patients. I recommend doing this surgery when the patient is a sweet eater more than a normal person because we are going to control the absorption of the calories. The most important for me is the patient lose a little bit of weight before the surgery because the liver is going to shrink. We are going to work in the stomach, and the liver usually covers the part of the stomach and it's more comfortable for me to work. The results are a patient with less complications. The patient has to know, this surgery is going to be a little bit symptomatic after the surgery. Usually they feel a little bit of pain in the chest, the shoulder, probably nausea. But usually it's in the first 12 hours after surgery. After that, it's going to be a little bit of pain on the wounds or the incisions. Usually the patients immediately after the surgery feel better because they start losing weight, in the first week, they are going to start losing weight. They are going to feel like they have more energy. Usually the first question is "Can I do exercise immediately?" because they feel more comfortable and with more energy. When we do this surgery on our patients, they feel more confident, healthier, [indecipherable 00:02:56].
